Foam tape is different from traditional tape that you would find in the store. Traditionally, tape is made with a plastic or pic carrier with adhesive on both sides, making it very stiff and rigid. This is great for some applications, but not for specialty application.
Foam tape, rather, is made using foam in the middle and adhesive on both sides, making it more flexible without losing any strength from the adhesive. Foam tapes are great for mechanical, aerospace and automotive industries. Because it is shock absorbing, extremely strong and light weight.
The first foam tape was created by 3M and is called VHB. However, tesa® has recently developed a new technology where the adhesive is infused into a rubbery material, preventing the foam from ever failing because the adhesive is in one solid surface.
