Continuous insulation is increasing in popularity among contractors, and new regulations have made it a building requirement for certain structures. Watch as IDI’s Ken Allison explains the benefits and how to install continuous insulation.
You might be wondering: what is continuous insulation? Continuous insulation is a monolithic layer of insulation. In this case, exterior insulation panels are joined together edge to edge with taped seams so there are no spaces between each piece of rigid foam. Continuous insulation prevents thermal bridging and stops thermal energy from escaping or entering through building materials. Building walls contract and expand throughout the year, so this application uses stretchable tape with a superior bonding strength at seams to move with changing temperatures.
